ABOUT JAMIE LOPEZ, PhD

My Background

I completed my PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Texas with a concentration in Marriage and Family. I have a strong generalist background completing a pre-doctoral and post-doctoral internship in college counseling centers. From there I discovered that I enjoyed working with individuals struggling with eating disorders and body image concerns. I have experience treating eating disorders in both the hospital setting as well as intensive outpatient programs. Today I continue to work with eating disorders in my private practice.

Building upon my experience working in college counseling centers, I also specialize in career and workplace concerns.  Using various assessments as well as a strength based approach many workplace concerns can be resolved, leading to greater overall enjoyment and increased work satisfaction.

My Clinical Work

I work from an integrative approach drawing from Ego State Therapy and Positive Psychology theories. Ego State Therapy focuses on the different roles we play or the different parts of self. The work in therapy is to bring both awareness and co-operation between differing parts of self. Positive Psychology is a strength based approach that focuses on building resources and increasing optimal functioning to aid in symptom reduction. The focus is on developing strengths such as compassion, gratitude, optimism, values and resilience. I help individuals achieve their goals through talk therapy, stress reduction techniques, hypnosis and neurofeedback.
